Brain Injury Program
An inpatient program for people of all ages who have acquired a brain injury
resulting in an activity limitation and have the potential for returning to community
living through a comprehensive interdisciplinary treatment program.
.
Program features
There are special features patients in the
Brain Injury Program may receive, depending upon their own unique needs and physician orders.
They may include:
-
Our two-room safety suite allowing patients the freedom to move
about in a secured area while being monitored by a camera from the nurses'
station.
.
-
Close observation beds for selected patients needing to be close to
the nurses' station as well as a
secure unit.
.
-
Environmental
intervention plans can be developed to help reduce
undesirable behavior.
.
-
Special floor beds allowing restless patients room to move.
.
-
One-to-one patient sitter program. Some patients who require close
observation
benefit from sitters observing and monitoring them. They may
also help carry out behavior management plans or help a patient work with
thinking and memory skills.
.
-
Functional community outings allowing
patients an opportunity to practice their
social and cognitive skills.
.
-
Referrals to support groups for patients and families.
.
-
Special Orientation Groups help patients improve short-term memory.
.
-
Referrals to other agencies working closely with persons having brain
injuries and their families to help smooth the transition back to the
community.
Services Available

A variety of other services may also be arranged depending upon the
patient's needs. Comprehensive patient and family education is also
provided.
.
Admission to the Program
-
Patients are admitted to our facility by a physiatrist, a doctor
specializing in rehabilitation.
.
-
Patients must be alert enough, or expected to be alert enough, to actively
participate
in their individualized program.
.
-
Patients not able to participate in their
program may be considered for admission if
they have family who plan to take the patient home regardless
of functional progress.
In these situations, programming is designed to teach family the skills
required to
care for the patient in their home.
